Kids Serve offers support through spaghetti

Youngsters at Our Lady of the Rosary in Greenhills have developed a true ministry of meatballs.
In March, the young people hosted Kids Serve Spaghetti Dinner, an annual event that raises funds to help alleviate poverty. They were inspired to pledge this year’s proceeds to Our Lady of Hope Orphanage in Jamaica after Fr. Gary Wiesmann, of Jamaica’s Archdiocese of Mandeville, spoke about the orphanage during an OLR parish mission appeal last spring.
Every aspect of the fundraiser dinner is managed by the church youth, from “Meatball Sunday,” during which they prepare the meatballs and tomato sauce, to advertising the event, setting up the tables, and serving the meal. Nearly 50 children participated in the effort, including several five-year-olds who helped wait on tables.
This year’s Kids Serve Spaghetti Dinner netted $1565, which will be presented to Fr. Wiesmann when he returns later this month to speak at Our Lady of the Rosary.
