Walt Hucke - Parish Deacon

I’ve been a member of OLR for 28 years. I’m married to Karen, God’s greatest gift to me 33 years ago. We have 3 married children and one grandchild on the way. After discerning for 15 years I entered classes for the Lay Pastoral Ministry Program and went on to the diaconate classes, a six year adventure with the Lord, and was ordained April 28, 2007. My duties with the parish are marriage ministries, Baptism, diaconating at Mass and some funeral services. My role is growing as I grow in my ministry.

My hobbies have taken a back seat the last few years. I have always enjoyed the outdoors. Taking photos, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and sitting still enough to have birds land on me is my idea of a good day. Being there as the night goes to sleep and the day awakes, with all the sounds of nature, is where I find God and my soul uniting. I don’t think you can watch a sunrise in solitude and not know there is a God!
